- Windows 11 2022 Update setup may not finish correctly with package provisioning.
- Microsoft is investigating the issue and recommends provisioning a device before upgrading.
- This problem is unlikely to affect home and small office users.
Microsoft has confirmed a new bug affecting provisioning packages on Windows 11 22H2. According to the company , provisioning packages may work as expected, meaning that the operating system installation may only be “partially configured, and the Out Of Box Experience might not finish or restart unexpectedly.”
This problem only affects devices in an organization or school network since provisioning packages are “.PPKG” files to help configure new computers during the initial setup. If you are a home user or someone with a Windows 11 device in a small office, you’re unlikely to be affected by this bug. Furthermore, Microsoft says that provisioning using Windows Autopilot is not affected.
As part of the workaround, the company suggests provisioning the computer before upgrading to Windows 11 22H2 to bypass the problem. Microsoft is also working on a permanent fix, but there is no specific time at the time of this writing.
In addition to this problem, the operating system has some other issues that may prevent users from upgrading. Soon after the launch of version 22H2 on September 20, Microsoft confirmed at least two driver problems affecting audio and printers , degradation of file copy speeds , issues with Remote Desktop connections , and others.
Although this issue is unlikely to affect Windows 11 Home and Pro editions for home and office users, version 22H2 has other problems you should consider before upgrading. If you still don’t have the Windows 11 2022 Update, holding off the installation for at least three or four cumulative updates is a good idea to give the company time to resolve most issues.
- Microsoft has identified a printer bug on Windows 11 22H2.
- The bug prevents Windows from determining some advanced printing features.
- The company is placing an upgrade block until the problem is fixed.
- You can still upgrade manually if you remove the affected printer.
If your computer is not getting Windows 11 22H2 (2022 Update) , it’s likely because there’s a compatibility problem with the printer driver. Microsoft has confirmed that the latest feature update is causing issues with some advanced printer features, and as a result, it’s placing an upgrade block until the problem is resolved.
According to Microsoft’s health dashboard page , if Windows 11 has connectivity problems with a printer using the Microsoft IPP Class Driver or Universal Print Class Driver, the system won’t be able to identify some advanced printing features. For example, two-sided/duplex printing, paper size or type settings, or resolutions higher than 300 x 300dpi.
Microsoft is recommending not to attend to upgrade manually using the Installation Assistant , Media Creation Tool , or using any other available method. However, if your device has been affected by this bug, if you must upgrade, you can remove any printer using the Microsoft IPP Class Driver or Universal Print Class Driver from the “Printers & scanners” settings page and then try the installation one more time.
If you plan to install the new version from Windows Update, note that after removing the affected printer, it can take up to two days for the update to become available for download.
